I'm at a hundred thousand miles and I need to do a coolant flush. Can someone tell me what i'll need..... How much distilled water......how much coolant.....where to flush or anything else??

I removed the bottom radiator hose on mine..If I remember correctly,,,I Bought 3 gallons of zerex g-05 & 3 gallons on water

Capacity I think is like 29.5 quarts. The radiator does have a drain.

After draining I like to do a tap water flush by unhooking a heater hose and holding a running hose up to one end, then the other until the radiator overflows and the runover turns clear.

Then let it drain, and dump in a couple gallons distilled water to flush out the tap water.

Dump in the desired amount of G-05 (I went 50/50) and top off with distilled water.

You can burp most of the air out of the system by squeezing and releasing the upper hose, but expect to top off the overflow bottle after the first few cycles of fully warm to fully cold.

Thanks for the help. Does anyone have any problems with a small piece of insulated hose leaking its towards the back of the motor on the passenger side and its right up by the firewall. It seems like it leaks at the change of seasons. I will start getting a small coolant leak on the drive way.

Yes. Everyone who has an 06 seems to have had that problem.

Usually snugging down the two clamps is the cure.

You would think there would be some type of upgrade by now....... oh well thats what I normally do I'll try and snug them down a little more. Thanks.

I think the newer trucks actually do have an updated hose.

If it still leaks after a couple times tightening it, I'd replace it while you are changing coolant.

Highway 4x4

For the 03 it says 7 gal for cooling. Is it safe, or needed to clean and flush the system or just flush? I have a little junk at the rad cap area. I think I am due for a good colonic flush.

Personally, unless the cooling system has been abused and is really crudded up, I just flush with water.

If you do use one of the flushing products, be sure to get it all well rinsed out.

Does anyone know if the HOAT coolant will read the same as a traditional anti-freeze on the floating ball test?

I think (but couldn't swear by it) that the typical ball tester will work fine with HOAT.

i will be installing a Opie bypass and i'm also at 100k so the book tells me to flush the cooling system, but i'm not really sure whats all involded w/ these motors. i've done it w/ gas motors before....but i've never used distilled water or anything. i've just kinda put a gallon of antifreeze and topped it off w/ water. but i want to do it right w/ this motor for sure.
