Cool-down timer question

I thought I'd post the question here so if anyone else is interested they could see the reply.
Is there anyway to increase the time before shutdown?
My friend was asking me, because there is times when you drive 1 mile somewhere, and its cold out, and you don't want to shut the truck off because its not really warmed up yet... so it would be nice to have a setting for about 15min just to let it warm up good before shutting it down.
Is it possible to change once its purchased or would you have to do the change as the timer is built?
Thanks

Re:Cool-down timer question

Just my $.02 but I hear its not good to let your truck idle that long because u get piston wash where it washes the lubricant off your pison walls. Not real sure about this but its what I heard. I guess your truck shouldn't idle for much longer than five minutes. Also if you where its cold your truck isn't going to warm up much unless you drive it. Maybe that helps!

Re:Cool-down timer question

I was thinking that too, or he could go out and start it 15min ahead of time if he wanted....but I told him I'd find out for him.

Re:Cool-down timer question

Shoot an email to Howard. He answered all my questions. I wanted to set mine for unlimited time when I use high idle to warm up at work without the key. He responded with everything I needed to know. Absolutely and udderly impressed with his service! ;D

Re:Cool-down timer question

When I designed the timer I did it in such a way that in case of failure on the rotary switch the timer would never run forever. If you want to change the timing on the 6 min setting, you would need to change the resistance values for all three resistors. If you changed the 6 min resistor without changing the other two, it would mess up the timing on the 2 and 4 min setting. Or if you wanted to do away with the 2 or 4 min setting and make it 15 min. you could put a very large resistor in place of the current one.

Now that we are all confused

If you really want to do this, send me email and I can give you details on what to change.

I agree...I always rev it to 1000rpm or so if its going to be sitting there a while.Idleing is hard on diesel engines. To quote another source- ''Idle time is the devil's playground''

If idling is bad, then why do "people always" leave them idling, especially big rigs?

Not arguing, just asking

The leaving idleing is a old truckers tale when it comes to our trucks, the big boys trucks have lube refiners on them that clean out the unburnt fuel in the oil so that they are able to let them idle as long as they want, it is still not a true statement that the longer they run the better they are. On our trucks and diesel engines in paticular the compression is so high that when left idleing too long and the engine cools down or when it is too cold at startup the fuel will be forced by the rings and straight to the oil she goes. When I start my truck in the winter I idle for a minute or so and then go and stay under 2k rpm till she warms up good, that warm up depends on if I have my radiator blocked off or not.
