If my rig's injectors on my 98.5 24v have all been removed by a dealer for cleaning when I got some bad fuel, did they put the later connector tubes back in that do not distort, so if I get bigger injectors I won't have to get new connector tubes? Thanks

If your 98.5 24v engine serial # on the CPL plate is before #56462592 you will need the injector tubes.......if it is after that you already have the newer style tubes that don't need to be replaced......as for the dealer replacing the tubes when the injectors were removed - who knows......even if your motor did need them, I wouldn't put much faith in them that they know if the tubes were required or not........if you needed the newer style injector tube or not, I would bet that they were not changed.

ok thank you. How do you like the 275 injectors? I have a van aaken, and would like to get them for towing. My injectors may be dumping more fuel than they should because it idles around 340 degrees, and the best mileage I can get is 15 babying it. The gas station that I used to buy fuel at let a bunch of water run into their tank in the winter, so I was the lucky one that got it. The dealer told me they cleaned the injectors, but it could have damaged one.

I really do like the RV275's.......you get a good bang for the buck. They are not smokey and actually have improved the running quality of the engine. I would have liked to have some Mach 1.6's but they were out of my price range at the moment. FWIW, after installing the 275's, I'm quite convinced that injectors can wear out and cause higher egt, worse mileage and poor running quality. The change is so gradual over time that you never notice - until you drop new sticks in and can't believe how much new injectors help. I think this would only apply to CTD's with at least 150k + but who knows..... a lack of lubrication in the injectors could cause some accelerated wear.

What's the deal with the early injector tube?

I was ready to install RV275's today and noticed my ESN was prior to the one posted, so I went to Cummins and purchased new crossover tubes today.

I put the injectors in tonight, and when I pulled the old tubes out, they looked exactly the same as the new ones did, with most of the numbers stamped on them matching up. I went ahead and installed the new ones, along with the new injectors. I bought the truck used, so it is possible that they could have been changed by the previous owner(s).

Just finished the job, and have only driven the truck a few miles so far, but so far so good! I like! Now to train the right foot, that go pedal is fun!

The injector tubes on engines prior to serial #56462592 are supposed to be made out of a softer material that deforms slightly when the injectors are removed. Apparently, they deformed so frequently that it became common place to install the newer tubes on engines prior to this serial #.

I actually got this particular info from this board awhile back and it was confirmed by Cummins when I got the new tubes.....the old tube part # was superceded by a new part # that was indeed the original part # for the engines after #56462592.
