Confused on testing map sensor?
In my Haynes manual it says to disconnect the negative battery cables, than remove map sensor. To test wires in harness there should be 5 volts at feed wire. How does it get the volts if the ground cables are off? I haven't attempted it yet.

5 volts is the input voltage at the MAP. This can be checked with the key on. The output voltage with the engine off should be in the 1V range.
There are also two different input voltages on these trucks depending on year. But output voltage is directly linked to the amount of pressure on the MAP. Atmospheric is pressure, hence the 1.xx V.
I have a chart somewhere for all the voltages up to 60psi. I will have to do some digging though.
