What does it mean when the fan on the computer runs all the time? It never used to come on, but now it runs constantly. It sounds like she's revved through the roof and ready to blow. It used to only come on if i was running Blubster or something like that, but now it runs even if the comp is sitting idle for hours at a time. My CPU usage percent stays pretty low most of the time, but will fluctuate without rhime or reason. Anybody have any ideas?

They usually run all the time, or are on a thermostat. Is that room hotter than normal? Also, take the cover off and blow the inners with LOW pressure air. Get the can stuff from a computer store or use your air compressor, but turn it WAY down, and start with 10PSI and work up. and get the vacuum out it's gonna be very dusty if you have never done it.

Yep, probably enough dust and lint. Once that stuff builds up on the fan, it becomes audible because of the imbalance. Also, there could be enough build up on the processor itself that is making it heat up a little with that extra insulation. Good call.

Very good suggestion. I blew what looked like 10 lbs of crap outta mine a couple of months ago when it started overheating. Put it on the truck tailgate out in the garage, cranked up the compressor, and cleaned it right up.

Make sure the processor heatsink and air intakes/grills is clean from dust. Also the thermal pad between the heatsink and the processor could be breaking down and causing the processor temp to rise and the OS is compensating by running the fan more often and at a higher speed.
