My tranny was acting weard ... not shifting ... I stopped at my trany guy and the computer was not telling the trany to shift and that was the code that was in the computer ...we tried to clear it it would not .
So I guess I will have to fork out some dough ...LOL

I'm not sure being I run mostly 1st gens and I haven't had problems with the 96 yet, but I think the coolant temp is used by the computer to decide wether or not to shift the trans into overdrive. I'm not sure about the rest of the gears.

I hate to throw parts in and waste money ... earllyer in the week my temp gauge was reading really low inside the truck ...I wiggled the connector and it started to read on the gauge .
The Tranny was done 6 months ago and the tranny was fine up until a few weeks ago it started to act up ...popping in and out of gears ...losing clutch pressure and eratic shifts ...some times it's fine .
The end of the coolant send dose wiggle ...I'm not sure by design ...the new one is a Standard motor ...my cost 80 bucks ...it listed for 150 ...not cheap.
We ran it on the scanner and the scanner was not sending any signals to shift when it should have been .
The code came up and would not allow it to be cleared from the computer ... I'm going to install the sender ...it is in a real pain in the butt place ...LOL

The truck seems to be shifting and preforming fine ...I would say yes the Coolant sensor plays a big part in controling the computer .
