Is there an adapter that will allow me to hook my laptop to my ecm? If so, who makes it and where can I get it?

Yep its called a data logger. No but seriously thats the only thing i can think of man i would like to know also.

There is a company called Auterra that makes an OBD adapter/reader that hooks up to the OBDII port on the truck. I have the software for my PDA but they also have PC based software. They say that all functions may not be available to the diesel. I know the PDA does display codes, fuel rail pressure (I have an 06), voltage, temperatures, etc. They have a good web site with demo software downloads. I have just upgraded to the unit that will read CAN from the straight OBDII unit. It works with just about every vehicle that is OBDII and later.
