compressor or exhaust housing upgrade?

Hey guys, I have a 93 auto 4x4 with I believe 4.56 gears dually. I've done the fuel pin and 3200 spring, and played with the pump a little bit, I was wanting a better turbo response, fairly lazy off the line, do you gurus suggest a compressor housing upgrade or the exhaust housing upgrade? If so which one and which size, I do moderate towing but nothing extreme. Let me know what ya'll think thanks.

I would go to a smaller exhaust housing. Your truck should have a 21cm housing if it is still stock and they cause a lot of lag. I have a 12cm on mine and it lights almost instantly. Also unless the gears have been changed they are either 3.54 or 4.10.

If you have the 21 definitely change that before you do anything else. Changing to the 16 was probably the single best thing I did for my truck.

93 came with a 18cm exhaust housing. Going to a 16 is not much different unless you have fuel to push it.

yep an auto 91.5-93 would be 21 cm. Manual may be an 18 cm.

I thought the 21cm was only on some 92's and the rest have 18.5cm including 93'. My 92 built in may of 92 has the 18.5cm and I read that only the first few 92 production months used the 21cm housing then went back to 18.5cm.

My 91.5 stick had the 21, my uncle's 92 D250 auto had the 18. A friend also had a 91.5 stick with the 21.

my 91.5 had the 21cm housing as well. Some 91.5 truck and some early 92 trucks had the 21cm housing, while others didn't. If I'm not mistaken all late 92 and 93 trucks had the 18cm housing.

The 21cm housing is a bad joke. It never belonged on an h1c

If you've 4.56's you may also be very quickly revving past the sweet spot and not allowing the engine to 'load' the turbo. You didn't list what tires you have though, guessing the gears might be to counteract biggins.

hey-Hey!!!,
I put on a 16. Even my 1990 came with a 21...which ov course should have been an 18. The 1990's 16cm migrated to the 7-blade HX35 that I finally put on. It is a nice combination with the long gears and NV5600.
cheers,
Douglas
