Color wire for backup lights?

Does anyone know the color of the hot wire to the backup lights in the harness out of the steering column? I want to add some halogen backup lights and need to tap into that wire. 2001 quad cab

Thanks,
Ajg

I just tapped the hot wire at the bulb. Mounted a relay on the frame and ran a fused hot wire from the battery to the relay.

This was the easiest was I could see to do this. I used the cheap off road light relay.

Hope this helps Rodney

If you have the rv connector just tap into that. That's how I did mine. I also use a relay. The back up wire in the trailer connector powers the relay, and the power for the lights comes from the aux wire from the trailer connector. Works great.

I found a bolt that fit in the center terminal of the 7pin connector, which is the reverse circuit for a trailer. I wired to the bolt, and stuck the bolt in the terminal with a little dielectric grease. This saved me from having to splice wires. I have to unplug the backup lights when I tow, but it is not that often. Then of course, I had to ground the lights to something.

I did the same thing, I bolted the black rubber coated napa lights to the holes in my pintal plate. then, wired up a trailer connector plug just using the center pin. works great.
