A lot of yall will probably think this is a stupid question but im new to diesels. How long should I be letting my truck warm up in the morning? I have a basically stock 01 2500 and it doesnt get too cold down here. about 40. I also have no way of plugging my block heater in at night. So basically the question is how long should I let it idle for and what could hapen if I dont.

i let mine run about 10 minutes in the mornings and im in the same climate, i always like to wait until it has built some temperature before i drive it

I'm not being smart here, but in weather that warm, you really only need to let it idle for 1-2 minutes. Just enough to get the oil circulating good. It's not going to get real warm just idling anyway, unless you have a high idle feature.

I think 4or5 min is ok at that climate, and you don't need to plug it anyway..if it starts fine. drive it at low speed and rpms for the first miles or till it reach temp

No block heaters needed at that temp.

Agreed, warm it up at idle for a few minutes then take it easy until the truck has warmed up. I do plug mine in sometimes when it gets cold here just so it will start easier in the mornings. But it is not necissary.
