code question
code question
I posted a thread earlier about my dads truck not responing to the gas pedal, even if it was held at wot. The only way he can get it to respond is to push the clutch in and let it idol back down. We looked at the codes that came up on the odometer and out of 4 of them, we only figured out what one of them ment from the code list in the tech page. The codes we cant finding a meaning for are, P0460, P1693, and P0216. Does anyone know what these codes are? Thanks for the help.
Let's see.
I know the P1693 is the companion code, meaning a code has been set in the other module (if 1693 is in the ECM it means there is a code in the PCM, and vice versa).
P0460 Fuel Level Unit No Change Over Miles
P0216 Fuel Injection Pump Timing Failure
The P0216 is a bad one, it is usually followed by the VP44 dying.
What were the other codes that you did figure out?
Here's where I decipher the codes.

Found your other post, did you try the APPS reset procedure? Here's the link to it again

Keep in mind that the key on/off code retrieval procedure doesn't always show all the codes.
Only way to get them all is with a DRB tool (Dieler) or ODB code reader (Autozone), there might be others hiding in there.

P0500 is the vehicle speed sensor, it is located on the top of the rear differential.
It shouldn't be bad in a 2002, unless he's contaminated his rear diff with water or something.

have you read my firt post about the problem that he was having with the truck. Do you think that bad fuel injection pump timing would cause what i described? The Vp44 is the fuel injection pump right? My dads truck only has approx 68000 miles on it. Should this still be covered by warrenty? Thanks again for your help, this site is helping us out tremendously.
2002 trucks have a 7 year, 100,000 miles powertrain warranty.
As long as he hasn't done anything that would make Dodge question things, he should be covered.
(fueling box, unaproved oil filters, filling with gasoline, etc)
The APPS reset procedure is free, unless you have Dodge do it
, so it's worth a try.
If he is showing the dreaded VP44 codes (yes, VP44 is the injection pump) then I would take it in for service.
Mine died at 4,000 miles, Dodge had it for almost a week getting the repair authorized, parts shipped, etc.
Try the APPS reset first, just in case that is all it is, might save some grief.

Yes, those code desciptions hold true for your year. The nasty one you have is the P0216 "Injection pump timing failure". This means you VP44 is dead, gone, no longer functional. The only thing covered under warrenty on the outside of the engine for the 7yr 100k is the VP44 INJECTION PUMP & THE LIFT PUMP! Don't let them tell you other wise. I know, been there and allready done this. Take the truck to the dealer and tell them you allready pulled the codes and it needs a pump, they will recheck to confirm, but with the P0216 code, you are set for a $0.00 bill to get fixed.
If you do end up taking it in, you might throw in some "magic words" describing the problem.
"Surging" and "no power" seem to be the best VP44 code words.
Those along with the 0216 will get the pump replaced.
