do you have a pressure gauge..no get one!
change the fuel filter? do so!! it might help. it did for me.

that's not to say you nor I will not be buying a VP in the future. I am just hoping its further in the future than sooner.

Had that code for bout two years & 15k miles. Know a inj pump is in my future, But still trucking along. Just clear it bout twice a month with the smarty. Had dead pedal a couple of times but no other probs, Other than feeling like the truck dont pull as hard but still playing with the adrenaline also.

I drove mine that way for about a year. Just remember, when it does decide to go it will just give up. Just hope you are close to civilization when it happens.

I went out to start it today and it ran for less than a minute and died. Tried to restart and no go. Going to check the pump from the tank in the morning. If I'm getting fuel then I think it's the VP44. I don't know what else to check.

I thought it was the APPS and I have one coming. New pump from the tank and new this and new that pretty soon I should have a good running truck again. )

I have two fuel filters on the frame by the pump. I changed those out when I was hunting last week. I had the codes checked then and didn't have the p0216. It was the code for the crank sensor. That one isn't there any longer.

A fuel guage is on the must get list too. Anything else I should buy?

One other note. There's a place in El Paso that rebuilds the pumps. Been there for many years. Should I go with them or spend a small fortune(that I don't have) and get something better?

if they are an authorized bosch rebuilder i wouldn't worry about them

Just posting to let everyone know what's going on.

WE got under the truck this morning and found out the tank pump is totally gone. No noise and no fuel in the line. We both got on cell phones and got prices. Parts houses either didn't have one or wanted too much money.

I called a friend of mine up north who works in a parts house which will remain un-named and he had a universal 9-14 lb, frame mounted pump for less than $100.00. He's sending it overnight and I should have it by 10:00am in the morning.

If this takes care of the, "lack of fuel" and the VP44 isn't toast then I should be back on the road. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the new pump will do the job.

Wouldn't ya know that Auto Zone didn't have a fuel pressure gauge in stock so while in town in the morning I'll find one from somebody.

Finding Parts in southern New mexico is like going on a scavenger hunt!!

So you have the in-tank pump? What are your plans to mount the new pump?

Good morning! I ordered a pump that will mount on the frame. I'm hoping that the vanes inside the tank pump are in a position so fuel will flow by them.

The pump on the frame will pull fuel out even though the tank pump is not working. A friend of mine had the same problem as I have and that is what he did.

It's been working for him about 3 months now. He's a farmer/rancher and his dooley is on/off the road about 18 hours a day.

Got ya. I have the in-tank pump as well and within the next year plan on adding a frame mounted adjustable pump using the in-tank as a pusher, but I always wondered what would happen when the in-tank crapped out. Let us know how it turns out and take some pics!

Do you know for a fact that you have in tank pump? OEM pumps are on the side of the engine block, below the fuel filter canister.

Boy do I feel stupid! You're right, that's where it's at and it still don't run. I tapped into the fuel line in front of the two inline fuel filters I have on the frame and that's where I'm installing the new pump. I looked at the location of the OEM pump and there is no way I'm going to try and get that pump off there. My friend told me that the dealer wants $2500 to replace that pump. I'm just a poor boy on SS. I'll have it done in the morning as soon as I find a hot lead to wire into. I'll let everyone know what happens soon after.
