after getting this code i hooked my truck to the snappy d-tac machine and it said my alternator was bad. im charging good at 14.6 at idle. should i belive this machine and replace the alternator, or could something else be the issue? any help is appriciated. thanks guys

If I remember code 41 is one I'm throwing too in the dually. I think it's low voltage or something? or ASD open? Either way, I got some electrical gremlins. Mine was charging fine. But there are times I think it doesn't. New ASD didn't help. I'm wondering if my wiring is catching/loosing connection. Maybe yours too? Headache

Have you jump started anybody recently? There is a diode in your alternator that changes the alternating current to direct current. I've had them charge okay for a while like this but you need to have an electrical shop check the alternator. Eventually, it will fail without notice. Now, there may not be anything wrong with your unit but you need to have it checked. Otherwise, there may be a bad connection that is causing a local low voltage situation.

The reason I asked if you jump started anyone, cross connecting the cables will blow the diode instantly.

Actually it means that the voltage in the field circuit is not changing with the switching on & off of the field transistor in the computer.

If you have something else to drive, pull the alternator and take it to be bench tested. AutoZone can usually do this for you and will do it for free since if you need a part, you're in their store and they just checked it for free, you'll probably buy one there. You could have a failing diode or a problem in the voltage regulator. This should be built into your unit.
