Clutch or Transmission?

My buddies truck went down the other night, we thought that the clutch had gone out since it has the stock clutch in it and it runs pretty good...lots of slipping..well anyways got it home and the clutch disengages so you can start it up and with the transmission in neutral it brings the rpms down and will not move at all when you let out on the clutch but is fine when the clutch is pushed all the way in.
What do you think?
thanks

Re:Clutch or Transmission?

I would look for a shift fork failure that has allowed the transmission to engage two gears at one time. It is a fairly common issue with NV4500 5 speeds that are either power shifted or the gears slammed around drag racing. If it is a NV5600 6 speed, look for a crack in the case, just above the PTO plate. That is what they do, and then bind the mainshaft and lock-up. The cause is the same, fast shifting.

Re:Clutch or Transmission?

Kinda the same thing happend to a friend of mine but his main shaft snapped. No not the imput shaft the main shaft with the gears on it. cost was 1800 to fix. it took out 3rd and 4th gear in one little pop. No bang or snap just poped out of gear.
