Clutch Questions

Ok just installed smarty last week and on level 5 it appears my stock clutch was slipping. I was wondering what kind of milage do you get from the stock clutch if you Baby it. Also what would be a good upgrade, maybe a few more mods in the future but not much and the truck see's towing duties

the clutch you need really depends on what you do with your truck, ( Race, sled pull, tow etc...) there are alot of different options out there, call and discuss your needs with a manufacutrer. and as far as how long will the factory one last well that depends on how much you slip it.

^^^ Yeah, what is your intended use and how much hp?

From what you said above it sounds like an OFE may be what you need but not for sure without more info.

if you arent going to get crazy with power, attempt sled pulling or drag racing, the ofe will be perfect.

trx. my travel trailer weighs just over 10k. i put alittle throttle to it. if i did it again, and wasnt worried about the $, i would go with the sprung hub DD from south bend. however, when i needed to replace the clutch, i didnt have the money, went with the OFE, and have had absolutely no trouble with it.
call peter at SBC and talk with him

will give him a try, how does the ofe stand up with a load seems like a big price difference between the two. Also looking to maintain stock pedal feel do you know if the dd feels like stock or is it going to suck in traffic

the DD is slower to shift because of the inertia stored in the discs, they have to separate to allow a shift.
DD will need upgraded hydraulics.

my ofe with a load is smooth, unless i have to make many attempts to back something in, then she gets hot and grabby. you can put her in 4WD before you get it warm, or not be bad at backing in

I have the SBC Dual Disk set-up in my 2006 G-56 Mega cab and really like it. First Dual i put on made some really weird noises, the second one had worked out much better. I find when you really get on it, above 3000 RPM, whenever you shift you get a whirring sound. I would imagine unloading those plates causes that. Also, when downshifting, if I want to get to second I have to double clutch. And while the first one I got made alot of rattling noises at idle, this second is much better. Peter at SBC is the man to talk with. Very nice guy. If you want to eliminate the rattle at idel I hear most guys have put that Fluid Damper on, which all but eliminates the rattle.

Thanks for the info. but a few questions?
1) what happens when you shift with no clutch?(or can you?)for that matter did you ever shift clutchless before the DD?
2)what is the fluid dampner? you mean on the front of the engine?

Thanks inadvance for your help!
