Clutch problems

So i drove it home from work yesterday (drove fine) and when i went to back into my driveway it wouldnt go into reverse. clutch pedal feels fine, but the clutch wont disengage. luckily i got it into the spot by shutting the motor off and putting it in gear and starting it. still clutch didnt release. info in thread is correct and truck has 150K miles on what i assume is a stock clutch.

My mistake. I thought you said it won't engage but it is the opposite.

Did it or does it make any strange noise? Any other things not quite right before this happened?

It is possible that you have an internal leak in the clutch hydraulics. The master cylinder and slave cylinder come as an assembly from Dodge, filled and pre bled. Had a similar problem on a trip recently and was forced to buy the assembly from the dealer as none of the auto parts suppliers had this in stock.

When mine failed, it was without warning. I was at a stop light when suddenly it was a though I had taken my foot off the clutch as the truck wanted to take off into oncoming traffic. Scared my wife badly and sure got my attention in a hurry! Had to stomp hard on the brake while turning the key off. After that, it would go into gear, but two seconds after that, the clutch auto released.

Sounds like a similair symptom. But my pedal feels fine. If there was an internal leak wouldn't it loose pressure as the fluid releases? But I am gonna look into it tonight. To breake the subject down some more to see if I can get some more help, I can't get the motor to diconnect the tranny at all.

When you pulled the slave off, could you see/feel the fork? If you are close, I have a BSN Master/Slave sitting in the garage if you are interested in trying it. Where are you in CA?

12 flapper, how did your pedal feel? Is anyone aware of a way to test the hydrolics without replacing them? i am gonna mess with it more tonight, but there is a big difference between a $900 clutch and $150 hydrolics.

I am going through a similar situation with my '03. I replaced my hydros ($240 from the dealer) and no change. I have an appointment with a good dodge tranny guy in town and will probably end up with a full replacement.

Some G56s have tack-welds connecting the shift rail(s) & fork(s) instead of ~1" welds... then the fork can seperate & prevent gear changes - should be able to feel the problem through the ball-detent shifter.

I noticed mine failing when backing my camper in and using the clutch alot. When my pedal was pushed in the clutch would start to engage on its own. Sometimes it would be fast sometimes slow and sometimes would not work at all and then I would hop in it and it work fine all day then it would act up. I never felt a spongey and hard or soft pedal it would change were my pedal engage and disangaged the clutch I delt with it for 6 months I changed it with the valair HD kit about 1 hour very easy. The old one I took out had no visaul problems that I could see must be internal. hope that helps
