Clutch Problems
What sort of track record does this master/slave system have? I at first suspected a worn disk but my interest is shifting to the hydraulics. At times the pedal feels spongy, like a brake pedal can feel with air in the lines. I can't spot any leaks and the bowl is full. I think I heard the whole thing needs to be replaced if bad so anyone know the cost of that?

If you're going to do the replacement, do yourself a favor and get the complete, pre-bled unit sold at the Dodge dealer. It comes in two pieces that snap together into one and the entire system is sealed so that once it's in, you're done, no bleeding. NAPA sells either master or slave separately but I've heard of nightmares caused by the bleeding procedure after one of those installs, so if you're gonna do it, do it right. I did mine at roughly 85,000 miles and found the info I needed on here, luckily. The complete unit cost me just over $200 at the Dodge dealer. The NAPA parts, if both are purchased, still runs $200 as well. So, buying the pre-bled, sealed unit is definitely the way to go. Hope this helps.
P.S. - Mine went completely to the floor when it failed and made the clutch completely inoperable, so you may not have a master/slave problem.

Anyone know if the master/slave replacement would be covered under warrenty? I shudder to think of going to a dealer but cash flow might force me to. I'm guessing it would not be covered and I don't even know if I do have a warrenty at 65,000 and a '01 truck.

Chances are your 5 years have expired, unless you have that 7 year warranty (although I think that was only on later 02's). Doesn't hurt to try though. If you're gonna get new hydraulics, get the upgraded ones from southbend. That way when you decide to get a bigger clutch, that part is all ready for you.

How much travel do you have at the slave cylinder. If you pull it off and push the plunger in on the frame and hold it as hard as you can and get someone to push the clutch in. if it is working properly you should get ½ to 1in out of it.You shouldn’t be able to hold it in.
