Clutch Pedal Travel

Howdy,
Is it possible to adjust the clutch release travel on a 1999, 5 spd? ??? ??? My clutch works fine, but I would like for it to release before the pedal is almost all the way to the top.

Thanks,
CR

Re:Clutch Pedal Travel

I was afraid of that. I was hoping there was kind of adjust on the pedal.

Thanks,

This came up a few weeks ago, and I couldn't find anything in the '02 FSM that indicated any adjustability.

Re:Clutch Pedal Travel

As your clutch wears, the engage point gets higher on the pedal. Might be time for a new clutch.

Re:Clutch Pedal Travel

Now that's not what I wanted to hear!

I know it's worn after 120K, but it's always released right at the top. Is there any way to check it?

Re:Clutch Pedal Travel

Actually, the slave cylinder has a spring in it to maintain zero freeplay between the release bearing and the clutch fingers. The only way to tell if it is worn out is by friction disc thickness, or the fluid rising in the master cylinder reservior over time. Generally, the thickness of the disc is measured by the gap between the pressure plate and flywheel. Unfortunately, if you don't know the original thickness of the disc, you have nothing to compare it to. Likewise, if you don't know what fluid level you started out with, you don't have a point of reference. To make matters worse, there is no spec (that I could find) on disc thickness. So, the bottom line is, if it ain't slippin', don't fix it.

Re:Clutch Pedal Travel

It still hooks up good, so I guess I won't worry about it for now.

Thanks for all the responses................
