Clutch imput

I know this topic has been beaten to death, but at least it gives us something to talk about

130k on the stock clutch in my 00', never had any engine mods or pulled anything until I got ahold of the truck. Just put on the Edge juice w/ attitude, exhaust, and soon intake whenever it ends up on my doorstep. On setting 3 which is the +80hp in fourth or fifth gear if I don't ease into acceleration it slips, other then that it's still great. I'm just going to baby it until I get a new clutch.

I've been looking at SB and pretty confident I'm going to go with them. Just had a few questions. I'm planning on putting injectors in the truck somewhere around 100-150 horse. I don't drive my truck like I stole it but I do like to use the accelerator pedal like everyone else - Unless I'm towing in which case I drive like an old man. The most I tow is my equipment trailer + kubota and usually not far, otherwise it's just a light toyota or half ton dodge wheeler.

I don't know whether to go with the 475hp or 550hp rated clutch. I don't do boost launches but I want something that will hold up to my everyday driving and not have to worry if I romp on it a little. I've talked to SB but I just want some of your guys' opinion. Is the difference in engagement between the two that big?

My 3250 was about $1300 without the input shaft. It drives like the stock clutch. Very smooth and it handles slipping pretty good.

I ran the Con OFE the 450hp clutch for 4 years with right at 400-450hp. I ran the crap out of it wheelin on the dunes and drag racing. It was awesome for a daily driver and pulling my sled trailer. I now have the 3600DD also with the upgraded hydros. Great clutch. You can really push it to the limits and boosted launches are a lot of fun too. Save a little more and get a dual disk because you will outgrow the single disk. The 3600 is very streetable clutch. A little jerky when backing uphill but you can get used to it very easy. Chris

yes as said before do it once and only once. I out grew a OFE and FE they were not bad clutches the FE when they did them it was jerky, but I out grew them as I added more power. if I was to do it all over I would of just went with a DD. the DD's they have now I believe are better than what was out 3 years ago when I did the OFE, my 3600 shifts good is alittle notchy at times but that is the nature of the DD. I know that this clutch should last me along time. Peter at southbend is one HELL of a guy. seemed to always have time if there was a question. the price is going to depend on who you buy it from and also install price the same. also since your going to be droping the tranny and shaft etc. good time to check the u-joints etc while its down. alot of times you cant judge a u-joint if it is going bad untill its been dropped. just food for thought.

Yeah the dual disk in my truck is slower to shift but when you can launch in 3rd gear its 1 less gear that you have to grab. The 2nd to 3rd shift with my 6 speed is probably the hardest one to get but now that I can leave in 3rd its awesome.
