What Clutch To Buy???'01 NV5600

Here the question of the day
With this truck:
2001 2500 H.O. with NV5600
Edge Juice w/ Attitude (ALMOST Always on 3x5)
4" ss Silverline
Rest is pretty much Stock

I Plow snow Commercially
Regularly Tow 15k +
it is Also the Grocery Getter

The Factory Clutch is about to give up and I am trying to choose the best clutch for my needs and still be able to afford to buy it

The Street DD looks good but to pricey at this point
Ceramic and the Feramic from what I read is gonna be too Harsh for the Plowing and I don't want to eat the flywheel.
Which leaves the Organics and Maybe the Kevlars
So what are your best Recommendations????

I haven't been able to reach SBC via their 1-800 number to talk to them

I Plan on doing the deed Myself next weekend so I need to get stuff ordered
soon.

Also what are you guys running for Lube in these trannys? and how much

wow 21 views and no suggestions posted yet....shocking

anyhow I think I've narrowed it down to the
SBC 1947-OK
or the
Valair NMU70279-01 / V3434

is it worth the money to go up to the OFE , how much does it effect the engagement and wear on the flywheel??

Why don't I find any mention of the Centerforce,Brute,or Zoom clutches on here

Somebody Please enlighten me

I am very happy with my southbend con ofe. A little grabby at time, especially when backing up. My buddy has a con fe and it drives about the same as my ofe. I would recomend either of those.

Many companies take the Christmas thru New Year break. People are busy spending in the traditional wanton not wanted category.

The clutch rules from Peter at SBC are very straight forward.
-The hp rating of the clutch should match or slightly exceed the estimated hp of the truck
-Trucks that regularly tow 15,000 lbs or more should use a double disc clutch designed for the street, regardless of the hp level.

Clutch Kits for 2000.5-2005.5 with NV5600 Trans.

1947-O = Single Disc with 375 hp, 800 ft. lbs. torque
1947-OFE = Single Disc with 475 hp, 1000 ft. lbs. torque

You're on the border for clutch choice. An 01 HO with Edge w/A is good for around 350-400 hp.

Engagement is a personal driving feel. I can adjust to any clutch for most any load in a variety of trucks. I am not a slipper. To me you engage and go be it towing or plowing.

Is your 15k towing: the trailer or combined truck & trailer weight?

Zoom doesn't have a good reputation. Never heard of Brute.
Centerforce used to be the clutch of choice until South Bend came on the scene.
Valair is a love hate. I hear both.

I have the southbend con ofe.The kit came with clutch,pilot bearing and flywheel...I took it easy for the first 500 miles to seat the clutch.Works great.With the torque of these motors,I would spend a few extra dollars more and get the SB...

I am not real sure how many miles I have on mine. Maybe 20-30K. It still feels the same as the day I put it in.

I really wish I could afford the DD but just can't do it right now...

so between the O and OFE which one will handle heat better?
(While plowing I've smelled the OEM clutch TOO many times to count)


With alot of the plowing I get into with this beast requires a considerable amount of feathering and slipping to nurse it around in some REALLY tight spots
(these are the ONLY times I wish for a juicebox)

I was planning on reclutching the LSD right about now but thats gonna have to wait til spring now

another question came to mind
anybody know if the flywheel in the SBC kit comes the upgraded pilot bearing in it?

and while I'm at it is there anything special involved in changing out the rear main seal

IMO I know you said a DD is out of the question $. but I out grew my southbend OFE and FE due to adding power. a OFE will shift smooth and give you the ability to back up without alot of bucking. the FE is grabby it holds but you give up some with backing up esp. with a trailer. I love my DD now holds great and it is smooth like when I had the OFE. you can call peter at southbend he wont do you wrong. if you dont plan on adding more power later do a OFE. if you do or plan on towing. I would really consider a DD. southbend has always been great for me to deal with and I never had any problems with their clutches only me adding more power. be realistic with what you are and want to do with the truck this way you buy it once and your done. hope this helps

But it looks like it'll be the 1947-OK
so i can put the other $200 into Redline MTF and the other Misc. Parts I need.

You'll be more than same with an CON-O. HO motors or the injection pump is a lot differant then an SO. HO IP's are only capable of about ~90 RWHP from any of the standard boxes, ie. edge, TST, FMS. Your max RWHP is probably right around ~300.
