Question How to clean Mechanix® gloves

Does anyone know how to clean thes things. They have been through several oil changes and have gotten soaked in oil (fingertips mostly). I have soaked them twice in hot water and Tide detergent, stirring occasionally. That didn't get the oil out. I also put them in the washer on a hot cycle with Tide, and that didn't work either, I get some out each time but the gloves are still greasy. Any one got any ideas?

Besides that. I would rather try to clean them first.

I would suggest Simple Green or Mean Green degreaser...beyond that, use latex gloves to change your oil.

Now thats a better answer. DAWN dishsoap is used to clean birds and animals after an oil spill. Worth a shot.

Gloves? Who needs gloves? Use your bare hands. It builds character AND it's one less thing to do on laundry day.

I agree, and why does it matter if they are dirty? They are your work gloves...

I read that you can use regular hand cleaner.
I tried it once and it was weird washing the gloves while wearing them.
It worked OK, I guess.

I don't worry about it anymore.
I usually get a couple month's out of each pair, wearing them every day.

The gloves keep my hands from being burnt, cut, scratched , nicked, impacted. Its kinda hard to unthread the drain plug when it and the oil its holding in is still ~165°, Not the most pleasant thing for my hands. I not a being a wimp here, but I would rather not put up with burning my hands. I will try out the degreaser and Dawn®.

I gave up on those style gloves for the very same reason. They soaked oil and did not clean easily.
I switched to Ansell gloves. Rubber grip area (palm & finger tips) over a poly glove. Rubber doesn't soak petroleum products and when disgusting beyond usage, only $4 to replace.

I have used mechanix stuff for a long time. to clean them, I use regular hand cleaner while I am wearing them, and then either turn them inside out and pressure wash them, or just throw them in the washing machine with the coveralls. then, after a stint in the dryer, they shrink back to original fit.

I tried the rubber and latex glove routine, but decided that if I had wanted to be a proctologist, I would have gone to medical school. Those gloves tend to snag and tear and and and....

The other product that works really well, if you don't like getting burned, is the "heat sleeves" that mechanix make. they are great for working around exhaust parts, and other wonderfully hot stuff, or if you have to lean on something warm to brace yourself.
