to chip or not to chip ??

HI
New to this board I just purchased a 06 with the 5.9 cummings auto trans. have had it for about 5,000 miles. LOVE the truck, happy with the power but thinking of installing a chip, please give recommendations pros/cons

also side note the actual fuel MPG runs about three MPG less than the display says it is getting.

IMO--If you install a chip you will find the performance will be much better. However, remember there is a good possibility that the dealer will not repair your vehicle under the warranty once the chip is installed although this may depend on the dealership. The first thing I would do is to install a quality set of gauges--EGT, boost, trans temp and/or fuel pressure. A good rule of thumb to go by is anything that increases your stock horsepower by over 100hp can and probably will do damage to your stock transmission and/or turbo.

I'f your worried about tearing up the truck, why not just install something like a quadzilla mileage max, that way your not tempted to "turn it up"

Also remember smarty is undetectable so if you have warranty you could smoke a trans and get it fixed free, atleast once....

(LOL) Well another part of "STARTING" bombing/modding your truck, one thing leads to another and before you know it, your sig will look like mine and you may even have another Cummins in the yard because you get bored with one and want another. Oh by the way SMARTY!!! Jr. or Senior, either way you can't go wrong...

Thanks for all the info from all. is the smarty really undetectable?? seems like a no-brainer if trany smokes take smarty off and go for the warranty repair. What is the failure to the turbo? explode or seals?

Also I can feel a huge difference on the power band on a hard acell that kicks in at about 40 mph it comes alive with smarty i am assuming it wakes up off the line?

I had a major glitch in my electric system and had to get towed to the shop. Once they found the problem they did a complete scan of the computer and didn't detect the Smarty even though it was installed (they would have found out pretty quick if they drove it) so Marco's code must appear like a stock program unless they dig.

As for waking it up, this is my first diesel and I ahd alway heard about how much torque they had. I was pretty disappointed when I first drove the stock truck. The Smarty woke it right up.
