Anybody know the lengths of an automatic out of a 92' Cherokee as opposed to a manual...........I'm switching out the manual to an auto here in a couple days and trying to figure out if everything is going to bolt up alright.
I would think they would be the same, since the cross member holding the T-case in place can only be in that location...........but I could be wrong!!!
I haven't got the auto yet, it's in the process of being shipped, so I can measure it yet...........any of you guys have a clue??
If not that's cool, I'll make it work either way.........I'm just sick of wheeling that manual [verymad] Makes crawling a pain in the butt!!!

I looked in my '90 Factory Service Manual, and I couldn't find anything. You could call Tom at Tom Wood's Custom Drive Shafts (http://www.4xshaft.com), as he might know. Cherokee America used to have an awesome technical section listing all the transmissions, t-cases, and axles. Unfortunately, that sight has been completely revamped since the last time I browsed it (more than 5 years ago). You could also try the forums at NAXJA (http://www.naxja.org) and Jeeps Unlimited (http://jeepsunlimited.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=48).
ETA: It's been a while since I've gone through my FSM, but I believe you'll need a new wiring harness, among other things, and will have to deal with all the same electronic headaches as you would if you were swapping an auto for a manual on one of these trucks.

put a 4:1 in the t-case and you will love wheeling with a stick....

Not putting in the 4:1 was a very large regret when I replaced the tailshaft on my NP231 t-case with an SYE. I couldn't afford it at the time.
You have a valid argument chromegrill, but I've always read the AX-15 manual tranny wasn't as strong as the AW-4 auto tranny.

I haven't broke my ax 15 or my teralow in some of the hardest trails around the country, but you can't be stupid, wheeled Mt. Blanca, Pritchett, Pink trail, Montrose, Dirty Steve's all numerous times.....
The 4:1 was the best thing I did.
