Check your third brake lights! LEAKS
It has been raining alot in DFW lately. I went on an errand today and for some reason turned to look over my shoulder and noticed water all over the back seat. It was on the seat back and seat. After I got home, I felt the carpet and it was a little wet as well as the back of the seat. I pulled the seat out and let everything dry out.
To fix the leak, I removed the rear third brake light and scraped all the old foam off and cleaned both the cab and the light. Then I used clear 50 year sealant all around the light and 2 dabs in the screw holes. I tightened it down, then ran my finger around the edges to make it nice and smooth. I added a little more at the top corners since Dodge can't make parts that match up correctly.
Anyways, the thing is sealed like a glove. Chalk 1 more fix to a crap product that I have had to do on my truck. There is no excuse for this. Yes, I can understand the foam deteriorating, but the shape of the light leaves a gap at the top corners that I imagine has been leaking for some time. They also could have used a thicker soft rubber gasket instead of this thin foam and a third mounting screw in the middle would have helped. What kind of engineer designs this stuff?
Chrysler - bankrupt for a reason.
