How to check if A.C is working properly?

Hey all,

Here is a silly question.

How do I check to see if my airconditioning is working on my 99??

(the temps are still quite cool here) it's impossible to tell if the truck is blowing cold air from outside or if the A.C is working.

I was in s. Ohio a couple weeks ago and it was VERY warm, turned the A.C on and it definitely wasn't working.

I took a couple of the little plastic caps off the lines, and pressed down on the ball valve with the point of my knife expecting to get escaping refrigerant gas, but didn't.

So I took it back to the dealer, told them to fix it they sent it back and said they replaced a fuse

I don't trust these guys further than I can throw them.

Can anyone tell me if it's workingt properly???

Thanks.

The first thing I would do is turn on the A/C, open the hood and look at the compressor clutch and see if it is pulled in. If it is not very warm outside, the clutch will be pulling in and it will run for a while, then drop out. If it doesn't do anything pull the wire off and check for power there. If you have power, put the wire back on and go to the passenger side of the engine compartment and see if the wires are on the low pressure switch. The low pressure switch is in one of the aluminum tubes coming out of the A/C box. Check to see if you have power on both terminals. If you only have power on one side then chances are the pressure in the system is too low meaning some refrigerant leaked out. You can jumper those two terminals to see if it will run. Don't leave it like that or you run the risk of freezing up the evaporator and possibly ruining the compressor.
Let us know what you find.
