Cheap 24 Valve Power
Hey guys, I just got an '02 24 valve w/ an automatic transmission. I am looking to put some more power into it and maybe a little smoke. Are there any cheap ways to do this rather than going to programmers and boxes? I know that it isn't as easy as the 12 valve p-pumpers though. Thanks a lot.

I will say do guages before anything. You probly wont like your fuel pressure situation. A holley blue for a lift pump then intake exhaust and a smarty. Anything more I would do tranny stuff first.

Pete's right about the lift pump. Assume its not up to par and go from there, or put a guage on it first just to find out it's weak then upgrade. The lift pump helps cool the expensive injection pump so its a must.
From there you can look at a box for more power. Watch the classified adds here for deals.

Hey I appreciate it gentleman. I do need to edit my stats, but it has a BD lift pump and other fuel upgrades (have to check from previous owner). Also I have boost, pyro and fuel pressure gage. It runs about 20 then goes to 15 under hard throttle. And I have had the tranny pressure upped and the tranny also maintained. I will definately look into these upgrades though. Thanks.

Definatelty sounds like you're ready for some more. Your options are really injectors or box/uploader. My experience is you really need a box to get the benefit of injectors.

I would recommend a box/programmer first. I say this because they are adjustable and you can always turn them back down if you run hot. Injectors are gonna stay warm you cant turn them down if they are too big. If you do a turbo I say injectors but if not I say a programmer or chip.

All of the VP-44 trucks need a little bigger injector. Try 275's or better is a F1 mach 1.6.
This wakes it up and mileage and power improve.
Next is a Smarty, it corrects the factory someware.
Alway start with gauges.
A turnbuckle on the wastegate helps with boost.
After that a tighter torque converter and valvebody should be done.

before you get injectors you might pull one to see if they are still stock, with all the other mods you may already have small aftermarket ones. you can tell if they are stock if you can see the bosch symbol or count the holes, 7 holes are in a stock injector and jammers will have 8

Don't go for too much power, if you're running an stock tranny. I would go with a small set of sticks and a non wire tapping box. The smarty is hard on stock tranny. The HY turbo is a small turbo. Too much injector=high egt's
