changing fog lights

My stock fog lights have cracked and yellowed lenses and no longer adjust properly. I'm looking at some factory replacements on ebay and was wondering if its worth taking that route or buying after market lights and trying to make them work with the stock brackets. Anyone here done that?

I've only looked around there long enough to change bulbs, is it a pain to remove the lights and brackets?

Anyone know if factory 99-02 lights will work on earlier years? I like the clear lense more.

Thanks

There are tons of aftermarket lights that are cheaper and much higher quality than the stock fogs. I am looking at a few sets because the bumper I bought did not include the factory fogs. I figured it would be easier to use aftermarket than hunt down factory units.

I bought new ones from ebay for the same reason , I think you should be able to use the clear ones. The lenses from the ebay ones are pretty decent but the mounting brackets are crap and the lights don't line up with the holes in the bumper at all, or atleast the ones I got didn't.

So what I did was pull the new lenses off the mounting brackets and put them on the old brackets.

cam73 ..I had a similar situation with broken and cracked fogs on my 03 Ram. I ordered a pair (# 3342009 LAS & RAS clear) from Auto Parts Deal .com Land line # 888-231-5287 .The cost was $ 44.85 each. They were far superior to the originals and lined up perfectly for an easy install. Hope this helps.

might be a little more expensive than stock - but apparently the 'Bosch Compact 100' fogs are quite good lights.

Thanks for the help.

The bosch lights look nice but are out of the budget.

The lights from auto parts deal look good, price wise as well.

There is a projector set on ebay with brackets for just under $100 shipped. They accept an H3 bulb and have a halo ring. The halo ring doesn't fit the look of my truck but I might be able to use them with out hooking them up. I'm also not sure if the stock wiring will support 55w H3 bulbs, different connectors too I'd imagine.

Can the bolts for the brackets be accessed with out removing additional parts?

Ya, it was a while ago when I did it, but from what I remember you can unbolt them and bolt them up with out removing anything you just need to be a little flexible.

The factory lights are very easy to remove. 10 minutes, one ratchet and a piece of cardboard to lay on in the driveway.

What gets difficult is installing non-factory replacements. I bought a set of Piaa 510 fogs (amber lens) to replace the factory fogs on my '02. I spent over five hours installing the stupid things because the factory bracket just doesn't match the aftermarket lights at all. Lots of cutting, dremel work and some creative heating/bending of the plastic and I finally got 'em centered in the factory hole, and about the same depth, but what a PITA! To top it off, the lights looked really cool, but didn't do a darn thing for improving the crappy factory fogs. Not worth the time in my opinion.

For that reason I think I will go with a factory style replacement. The headlights are so bad in these trucks I don't like driving with out the fogs on. Recently the drivers side has been shutting off until I give it a light tap. It usually turns off a few bumps down the road.
