Changing the batteries. What do I need to know?
Just want to avoid any problems. My original batteries are no longer holding a charge after almost 8 hard years.
Change one out then the other or disconnect both then reconnect both?
Leave no batteries in the truck for a while or swap out quickly?
Leave the Smarty programmed in or set back to stock?
What else?
Thanks

It does not matter. One at a time will keep your clock and radio programmed... actually, I don't think it will reset it even if you take them both out at once unless you leave them out for a while.
Don't worry about any of that other stuff.
Just be safe with the cable ends, they are still hot with one battery connected.

One then the other. Clock does reset with both grounds disconnected. If you got a glove, stick it over the positive cable (if doing one at a time) to prevent it from shorting out. As far as the Smarty, no need to worry.
