change fuel filter

Ok, the owner's manual says to change fuel filter about now.. I looked in the Fleetguard catalogue, and shows no filter for the 6.7

Do you have to replace the separator assembly??? Is it a drop-in type filter??

Thanks,

chris

I believe its only available with MOPAR, you replace the entire assembly. Instructions come with the new filter, its a pain to remove/replace

FLEETGUARD FS43252E or MOPAR MOP5183410AA

Try Geno's Garage. It is a plastic screw in cartridge.

Only problem changing is that the fuel in the filter is difficult to drain so when you unscrew the filter and try to maneuver it out, it leaks and spills everywhere. ugh...

I don't have a 6.7 but when I'm changing the filter on my 5.9 I take a big gallon sized zip lock bag, open it up and stick it in an area near the filter. After draining the filter a bit I drop it in the bag so I don't get fuel everywhere.

The Fleetguard filter is FS43252. Some time in June you will be able to buy the new housing that lets you change the element and not the whole filter.

ya, it looks like a pain to get to. Dodge has the filter for $40, im guesssing it's the cartridge... i checked AutoZone yesterday, THEY CAN GET IT it's $73, and it's a FRAM....

Thanks for the idea with the ziploc, will save me alot of complaining from the other half..

Napa (wix) will be releasing a filter soon. Part number 3373. As of a few weeks ago the new number shows up but lists as not yet available.

The trick to draining the filter is to open the valve at the bottom of the filter about 3 or 4 turns. You'll be able to feel pretty much when you've opened it too much and the valve feels like it's going to come completely out... don't wanna do that. It'll start to drain a little bit this way. Then what you want to do is to unscrew the filter from the housing just a little.. an inch or less. This is let a little air into the system and will allow the filter to drain much better. The reason that these filter won't drain very well is that it's a closed system, meaning no air can get in so that they'll drain properly. Cracking the filter open from the housing helps this problem.
