Cell phone companies...which one?

I'm in the market for a new phone w/ service. I need excellent service in the south east, especially rural area's. The service I currently have is fine in larger cities, but, where I live, fish, and hunt, I have no service.

Also, what phones do you all suggest.

Basically your thoughts and opinions.

Thanks!
Bennett

I recently switched from Nextel to Verizon. I am much happier with their plan. I had Nextel for almost 5 years, I never had a compliant with the actual service, just the plan pricing.
On a side note I am getting really tired of hearing people in resturants: "meep-meep" It's genreally rude to have to hear someones useless conversation, isn't it?
Since the invent of the two way "direct connect" ALL of nextel's (motorola) phones have had a button that takes you OFF of the speaker and onto the regular earpiece, why people can't figure that out is beyond me?
We almost always had aprox. $10.00 per month, per phone in direct connect charges. But, you thought they were all "free" right? Well, you will find yourself out of your home service area, where you are now being charged to use the two way now too?!!

I vote for Verizon, but coverage is king. If you can't use it at home for your primary phone, it's useless.

I'd have to sy the provider with the biggest gaps in coverage award goes to Next yell, 'cause thats what ya end up doing, even in visual sight of a tower and you have no signal. Further frustrations abound when you" upgrade to a blackberry, you would figure that a high end feature packed phone would have better reception..... nope I can wander around a site with little to no signal and have one of my guys with a bottom of the line p o junk nextell and he will have full signal and my blackberry sits there saying sorry out of dispatch coverage, try again later. As for the bill dunno, co. phone/ radio

I have cingular for my personal phone and I love the family talk plan that we currently have. My husband has been with them for about 4 years and has never had a problem with them. For work we have Verizon and we have had a lot of problems with it. My boss is even thinking about changing carriers to Cingular when their contract is up.

Ok I'm not a good person to respond

Let me start off by stating I am an Engineer for Verizon. Not Verizon wireless but "VERIZON". I personally have a Verizon cell phone for work and home. I live in a very rual area and mine works great. I had Sprint for years and had nothing but trouble. I know Verizon has the best coverage for this area. I also know that Cingular is adding a lot of new towers or adding equipment to existing towers. I'd choose Verizon again. I was talking to someone the other day who worked for another cell provider. He had Verizon because he said only Verizon works where he lives (rual). Good luck!

I have cingular and like it mainly for the rollover minutes. If you dont use all the minutes in yor plan for the month the keep rolloing over to the next.

I have had Cingular, Verizon and Nextel and I have had the best luck with Nextel in this area. My In-laws had Sprint for a long time, and always had problems with dropped calls and customer service. They switched to Nextel and have been very happy. No dropped calls and good customer service. Now Nextel is owned by Sprint.

It is funny how ya'll talk about Nextel. I currently have Nextel now and I can not begin to describe the problems I have had w/ them. I have no service w/ them at my house in Conway. NO SERVICE, period. Yet, Nextel tells me, I should recieve FULL SERVICE there. But guess what, I still pay 55 bucks a month for missed calls.

I've got to do something soon. I am choosing between Cingular and Verizon and leaning towards Verizon now.

Keep um' coming fella's thanks!

I have Alltel for my personal phone and have been pretty happy with it. The coverage is very good in my home area, and when traveling the back roads on vacation I can normally catch a signal when I need it.

We use Nextel at work, and the board rules won't allow me to say what I really think about Nextel service. We use them instead of normal two-way radios, and twice in the past two months they have left officers isolated with no radio or cell phone service in well-populated areas of town - one of those officers was me, dealing with a hostile mental subject. The other officer was holding an armed - and uncooperative - subject at gunpoint, and he could not get through to dispatch to get help. Those are just two incidents I have been personally involved in, but there have been many other issues. These things plain suck. Depending on where in my house I stand, I may or may not have coverage on the Nextel, and I live in one of the more developed and populated areas in town. Did I mention Nextel sucks?

Verizon and Cingular are running neck and neck for tower space....As far as reception in my area, they are pretty much the same..

I like my new rollover plan, About 8 months into it and I have something like 8000 minutes already

Cingular uses GSM phones...they have the little chip in them...Want a new phone? Get on ebay, and get one. Put your chip in it...No contract extensions, keep your stored phone numbers, none of the headache....Their are ALOT more phones available for GSM than Verizon's CMDA/TDMA system

Verizon screwed me more than once...If I ever go off the deep end, their CS reps at my local store are near the top of the list...

Long story short, they will NEVER get another CENT of my money....Screw 'em

Oh yeah, almost forgot I HATE VZW!!!!!

CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?!?!?!
