cd player will not eject, or play???

Hi All! I'm new on this forum and new to owning a diesel truck also. I've got a 1996 one ton, (Dodge), dually. It has the factory installed cd player. It really does seem to be a pretty good player, and was working great until today when I turned off the player, and then tried to eject the cd and it wouldn't do anything. Now, it won't eject the cd, (makes a whirring noise when I push the eject button), and it won't play the cd either. I posted this in the TDR forum, but didn't get any response, and thought I'd give it a try here. Thanks in advance!

Well I Had This Problem A Month Ago With My 1999. Don't Know If This Will Help You But I Got Mine Fixed. I Took The Whole Thing Out Of The Dash And Tore It Down All The Way To The Electronics To See If Something Was Wrong---turns Out It Wasn't Necessary. What I Found Was When The Cd Is Put In- There Are Some Holders In There Behind The Fiber Cd Wiper Material On The Face That Won't Allow You To Put Another Cd In (i Think). Anyhew If You Start At The Middle With A Screwdriver Or Butter Knife-slowly Move To Each Left And Right Sides Of The Player (you Wont Be Able To See Anything-just Feel). If You Come To Resistance In There Before You Reach Each Side Then You Have A Stuck "holder Thingy". Just Slowly And Carefully Try To Unstick It. There Are 2 Of Them- For Example If The Right One Is Stuck It Needs To Be Moved To The Far Right Side. You Only Need To Stick The Butter Knife In An Inch Or Two To Accomplish This. Okay----now That Long Winded One Is Over I Hope It Came Out Logically--good Luck

Thanks, I'm going to give it a try. I'll let you know what happens. If it wasn't for this engine......

Had this happen on mine. With the stereo on, hit the eject button again.
Have another cd, maybe a scratched one, and carefully slide it in the slot,
holding the cd toward the bottom edge of the slot. It should help the stuck
one release. You must do this slowly and carefully with minor wiggling. I used
this technique more than once before the volume **** crapped out. Then I
replace the stereo.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Jeff, I'll give that a try too. I know one thing, I'm not going to worry too much about it cause I don't use the cd much anyway. And, as many miles as I intend to put on this truck, if the cd doesn't crap out now, it will later on anyway!

Must be the time change. Mine just did the same thing this past weekend. My fix was to pull out the radio and replace it with the stock cassette head out of my 96. I am going to try the fix though. I almost did it too. I put an unburned CD in the slot to see if it would go in. I'll try it while hitting the eject next time.
Thanks for the hints.
