cattle prices
I have been busy with school work right now( at The Ohio State University) and i havent checked the prices lately, any ways are the cattle markets up?? i sent in a 2 year old heifer into the auction she weighed 1395 and brought 900 bucks which i thought was pretty good.
Any one else notice this

The market is the best it has been in 15 years. Japan has just lifted its ban, Taiwan follwed suit. $86.50 / cwt on the hoof in Nebraska as of Wednesday for slaughter cattle.
Ranchers here are all smiles.

Sheesh, no wonder you guys won't open up your border to us!
On the bright side though Dr. Evil I heard that we're now getting a pretty large chunk of the european market under our belt

We're smilling all the way to the bank. You guys that are in the business will want to hide that money in the matress, this market won't last long. Guys are already starting to retain heifers, give it 2-3 years and it will head south again.

I dont follow the markets, but I know that the price I am paying for roping steers and cutting calfs has about doubled in the last 5 months.
When Japan and everyone had our producers cut off, the price was cheap, cause there was no other market.
now my livestock supplier says he cant buy enough to supply ropers.....
guess thats a good thing though....................

We should shut off the Potato plants in Taber for a while and see how many Macdonalds customers in the North west start barking about NO FRIES....
Or lets see, those 2 BIG pipelines of Natural Gas going to Chicago and California may need some maintenance right???
OPEN THE BOARDERS>>>
I digress, once those big packing plants open up, then who needs to take em south anymore anyway...

Lil Dog, that's the one good thing that'll come from the closure. Keep the value added portion of the cattle up here instead of feeding the US slaughterhouses. Would still be nice to have the border open again though!

Down here in Southern California, all the cattle ranchers sold out to real estate barons. My buddy sold 7 acres of nasty cattle land for a million dollars, and nows cursing because he could have sold it for twice as high...
