A Chemistry professor at a large college had an exchange student in the class.

One day in class , the professor noticed one young man (exchange student) who kept rubbing his back and stretching as if his back hurt.

The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet loged in his back. He had been shot while fighting Communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a new communist government.

In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. He asked "Do you know how to catch a wild pig?"

The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said this was no joke. You catch wild pigs by finding a sutiable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come every day to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day you put a fence down on one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence, They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side. The pigs who are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat, you slam the gate on them and catch all the pigs. Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it the have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity. The young man told the professor that is exactly what he see happening to people in the United States. The government keeps pushing us toward socialism and keeps spreading free corn out it the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax, tax credit for unearned income, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops, welfare, medicine for drugs etc. while we continually lose our freedoms - just a little at a time.

One should always remember - there no such thing as a free lunch!

Also a politician will never provide a service for you cheaper than you can do it yourself.

In this very important election year, listen closely to what the candidates are promising you - you just might be able to tell who is about to slam the gate on America."A government big enough to give you everything you want is big enough to take away everything you have" - Thomas Jefferson.

You have nailed the liberal agenda to a tee with that story.

Their are no payments from the Government to not plant crops [dummy]
The LDP on milk has been 0 for years. If dariy farmers would not have recieved subsidies in the past almost all the milk in the United states would be imported today.

And here I thought we were going to have to bring our buddy Loch into the conversation, to tell all about catching wild pigs. However.

It doesn't apply only to the liberal side fo the spectrum anymore. Up this way, all parties are the same when it comes to handing out freebies. And it gets rather irritating. However, knowing that I am able bodied, and can work, lets me rest easy. Knowing that I am able to continue to support thousands of able-bodied young people on welfare.

Good write up

Their are no payments from the Government to not plant crops [dummy]Um, yeah there is. I came real close to accepting those payments when I first came to Michigan and bought into this farm. There was 100 +/- acres of tillable land here that wasn't being used and I at least wanted it to pay for itself, if not make me a profit. When I went to the local Farm Bureau I was told to sign up for a Federal program that would pay me between 70 and 90 bucks per acre to not grow crops on my land. The idea was to allow the land to return to it's native 'prarie'. Then there is the State Conservation Reserve Program that will also pay about the same 70 to 90 an acre but you plant trees and have to keep them for a minimum of 10 years. At that time you can sign up for an other 10 years or get out of the program. In a folder somewhere here in the office there are at least another 4 or 5 programs that essentially, will pay you to NOT plant crops.

I'm proud to say that our 100 tillable acres is planted with corn and soybeans, both of which will be going to bio-fuel plants very soon!

You still have to plant the grass contol the weeds on CRP. If you actually keep the land in compliance and control the weeds you would make more money by renting it to someone who would farm it.
CRP killed the economy of my county 3 of the towns are practicly ghost towns now.
If you don't plant crops on the land how do you control erosion. And if you don't do any spraying the weeds will take over.

That is a cool story ... very true. We, as a nation, are being lulled into a false sense of security and will be locked into our cages before long. And we will have noone to blame but ourselves.

Cheers,
