Cat, Muffler, What else?
Hey, got a question for you guys. I have ordered a new MegaCab 3500 4x4, with the six speed and since it is going to be awhile before I can actually get it, I went and looked at a few of them on the lot. Well, when I crawled up underneath the truck, I saw something I haven't seen before. First in line, from the turbo was the catalytic converter, next in line was the muffler, then directly after that was another smaller looking muffler deal, right before the over the axle bend. It was about 6-8 inches in diameter and about 12-16 inches long. Just wondering what this thing is. Anyhow, you can tell I am getting pretty excited to get the new truck, I stop at about every Dodge Dealer I see, and am constantly eye balling the road for other trucks like I ordered just to get some more eyeball time. Anyhow, if any of you feller know what this could be I would appreciate it. Scotty

That would be a reasonator. The only part of the stock system (&tailpipe) I'm planning on leaving on my 06 mega. That'll leave a need for about 100" of straight pipe between the down pipe & the reasonator. Those mega's are long !!

That thing is a resonator, but also another part that traps soot and reduces flow. I went with a complete MBRP catback system instead of just the replacement muffler so that I could eliminate it.

djbikeman,
You're right I have seen our MBRP cat back system sales climb since the Mega Cabs hit the pavement, before that we sold the test pipes and the relacement mufflers a lot more.

Is it only the MC that has that resonator? I just assumed all the 2006 CTD's had it.
The install is a lot easier too. I spliced in an Aeroturbine on my 04.5 and that was harder than doing the complete catback. I made 2 cuts in the factory system, 1 in front of the muffler and 1 after the resonator, and it was out in 10 minutes. I was done in 45 minutes and wondering what I was missing???
I will say that I am extremely pleased with my MBRP system! Smooth and quiet on the interstate regardless of load. It will still roar when I step on the go pedal hard.
