Re:Cat diesel??
Ya Cat would be the only one to try to compete. Its would be pretty even.Cause Cummins and Cat are big Busniesses (sp its 530am).

I had the pleasure of driving one for a while, 235hp with a Maxitorque 9spd manual. Bulletproof combo but wasn't very fast.

MikeyB

Re:Cat diesel??
Chevy had CAT make an engine for the light duty truck and it drank fuel like crazy! It can be found in the TOP KICK. They decided not to go to the 2500/3500 with it because of the fuel consumption of that motor.

Cat is a great motor but typically doesn't get good economy even in the big truck applications.

It didn't surprise me that Chevy kept looking beyond the Cat but what did surprise me is that they didn't go with a Detroit Diesel Allison.

But since Chevy Owns 33% of Isuzu Motors I guess we shouldn't be too surprised on that decision either.

Re:Cat diesel??
This is not one of those subjects to get all hot under the collar about. Who cares about whether Chevy will give up on their Duramax? I won't buy one.
Let's all just settle down. Save the angry posts for political debates! ;D

Re:Cat diesel??
I'm not angry. I just don't like it when people spread rumors. If I don't have hard facts about something, I don't tell it like it is truth. GM has way to much invested in there Dmax to even think about changing, and why would they want to? The Dmax has been a good engine. Let's just think about this, GM has billions invested in the Duramax and it is selling very well. Better than the Dodge/Cummins in fact. So, why would they spend millions of dollar's to put a Cat in the light trucks when they all ready have a good engine that is selling very well? This is the same as all the ignorant Ford guys who come up to me and say that Ford owns Cummins, or Ford is gonna put a cummins in the F-series. If I have heard that once I've heard it 10,000 times. And what facts do they have to back it up? None. It's just because somebody says it makes it true. I am a General Motors Dealer, And they let us know when they have this kind of stuff in the works. In the late 90's when we all knew that GM had a new diesel in the works, The name Cat never came up one time at a dealer meeting or confrence. I'm not trying to make trouble, I am just saying unless you have hard facts to back up an unbelievable story, don't get mad when somebody calls you on it.

There is NO WAY that engine could even fit in a GM 2500/3500. The Duramax is shoe horned in there as it is. More less a 7.8 litre I-6 Cat.

Ok, Ok...
Lets not let this get out of hand.
It was stated in the original post that this entire topic is just "rumblings".

Theres no need to take it any farther than that.
Just keep it within the site rules.

Thanks
Rich.
