Castrol Elixion
My first complimentary oil change is coming up and I asked the dealer what oil they used and the answer was "Castrol."
I didn't think to ask 'which' Castrol since I've never used Castrol oil in anything. I looked on Castrol's website and they have diesel oil called 'Elixion' in various viscosities. They claim that they meet Cummins CES 20072, 77 for what that's worth.
Anyone have experience with this oil? I've always used Rotella, Ursa, and Chevron but with this truck I got 14 free oil changes and that adds up to a few bucks.

The Castrol will be fine. Any brand name diesel certified oil will keep a Cummins happy provided it's changed on time. The shop that does truck maintenance for the company I work for uses some stuff made by Citgo that I never heard of before, but it works fine. I think every major oil company has a diesel oil, but not all of them sell to the general public, they concentrate on shops.
BTW, who makes Ursa?

Re:Castrol Elixion
Ursa is made by Texaco. It's good oil but getting hard to find around where I live. Everybody has Rotella and Chevron and I've never seen this Castrol stuff called Elixion. It sounds OK. I just don't want them putting in something that's not CI-4 rated. The 0w-30 Elixion sounds interesting. Ought to start a lot easier than 15w-40 but I don't know if Cummins wants us using 0w-30.

The "w" number just tells you how the oil performs at low temperatures, lower is actually better. I wouldn't want to run anything rated as a 30 weight, either. The synthetic versions of Rotella, Delo, etc. are 5w-40 which sounds like a good setup for those in the frozen north.
