I'm looking for somewhere to rent a good sized cargo trailer (8x24 or larger).
I'm moving my son and daughter-in-law from Tampa, FL to Boise, Idaho in May. I'm set up to handle bumper pull, gooseneck and 5th wheel. Anyone have any sources or ideas?

It's too bad you don't live nearer to me. I'd loan my 24' gooseneck to a fellow CWO pilot. I think your choices are u-haul or buy one and try to sell it on the other end. That's how I ended up with the gooseneck. I found it on Craig's list, moved my son across country, then decided to keep it.

Thanks for the offer. I live about 50 miles SE of Ft Rucker. If I don't find a good rental source, I'll probably buy one off e-bay and re-sell after the move. They make several brands in GA. Truck rental was going to be $2K with the taxes and all and they guesstimated $1.2K for fuel (7 MPG) for the truck and I'd have to fly home. I can buy the trailer (8.5x24), 5.2K axles, V front for just under $5K. I think I can get $4K reselling.

ditch ebay and check out craigslist. trailers come up all the time. if you do this correctly, you should be able to break even or make a little $$.

Ah, good old mother Rucker. Over the course of 27 years I went to seven different schools there. Good memories.

Good luck on the trailer. I think Craig's list is a good bet to find one, you just may have to drive a couple hundred miles to get it, and if like mine, do a little maint to get it roadworthy.

took some serious digging but I found mine on Craigslist. can't be in a hurry. kept looking at trailers and asking everyone how many lugs wheels had to find a tandem 7k axle trailer.

ended up looking at a trailer with a single 10k rated axle (four tires). home made build like a tank and UGLY with a capital U. had to pass on that but in the process found out owner had a 20ft tandem 7k axle trailer with brakes, ramps and almost new tires. unused for 3+ years at his dad's who lived out in the country.

asked how much, he said $1650. I said sold... sight unseen. anyways.. drove 125 miles out next day and picked up my trailer. best trailer deal I've ever got! it was exactly like he described, floor in excellent condition. tires almost new. made me a happy camper!

Try calling your local trailer dealers. Not only do most sell trailers but they also might rent them. Our 8x24 rents for $110 per day or $600 per week. Remember that we are not like U-haul, trailer dealers are in the business of selling trailers not renting them so the rate is usually higher. For most of our customers, if they need the trailer for much more than a week, it usually does make more sense to buy one and re-sell it.
