cargo limits for srw 2500 4x4
Guys i need some help here. planning a trip to minneapolis to pick up a lift of hardwood flooring weight is 2700lbs.mow i have a 2004 2500 cummins shortbox 4x4 with load range "E" tires.this is a straight shot on the interstate of 500 miles.will this be way over limit for my truck.the load will not be very tall so i don't think it will be "tippy"

While the truck may handle the weight, you will likely be over the GVWR. From what I have read on the boards, the various state DOTs seem to be tightening up on things like that. Do you have a small trailer you could use? Might save you a ticket and make for a more comfortable ride.

I agree a trailer would be ideal. If you can't do a trailer though, then I'd suggest max sidewall pressure in your front tires and 10% over in your rears (88 psi instead of 80). Stop frequently and put your hand to the rear tire sidewalls and feel how hot they are. You may have to drive slower than you want.

Truck should be about 7200-7500lbs your GVWR 8800lbs or 9000lbs. it is on the sticker on the drivers door jamb. if you go with the highest GVWR and the lowest weight you still only have 1800lbs of usable load. The truck can handle it no problem but legally you will be over the GVWR for your truck.

I burn corn for heat and before I bought my corn wagon I used to haul it home in the box of the truck. A short box truck will hold exactly 40 bushel of corn at 52lbs/bushel thats 2080 pounds. It barely squated my 04 2500. It basicaly made it sit level. I only had to go abought 8 miles with it but I wouldent have hesitated to go farther though. If ya have good tires ide say go for it.
