Can't remove spare
I tried to let my spare down to check it and it won't budge. You can crank the tube that goes to the cable but nothing happens. Is there any way to get the spare down? How do you repair the crank/cable ???

I managed to get a little slack and cut the cable just above the carrier using a dremmel. I found that the reason it was not working was that a pin or bolt had come out of the crank tube where it connected to the cable reel. I replaced it with a cotter pin and looped the cable around a eye bolt and fastened it with a bolt on cable cinch. It looks like it will work ok. I sure would hate to drop my spare in the middle of the road.

It seems like chry likes there spares to fall our , lots in the shop come in and it gone rusted parts , picked a few up off hwy , chry ever time ,
I used one of those cable winchs to mount spare under bus , imposible to do one person , may 2-3 hundred pounds , but the I used a all thread to fasten to frame once the wheel was winched up , thats the kind of insurance that I'm willing to pay for .

Carrier Failure@3.000 miles
My carrier failed @above stated miles and was replaced on warranty. The embarrassing thing was that my wife called me on the cell phone to state that upon seeing me driving away, she could see the stock spare dangling from the body. I drove it to dealer and it was replaced. On long trips now I plan to use a cable recently purchased from Master Lock that should give me peace of mind. I looked under my wife's company supplied superduty and it looks like the identical part.
