my truck has the infinity system w/ a older pioneer headunit.
my front 6x9's are blown, and I have replacement speakers.

i heard something about if you dont hook the wires up right, then all the other speaker will get dull because the amp isnt powering them... or something along those lines...

this is in a 1996 ram 2500.

Never worked on one with the infinity system, but Im guessing two wires go to the speaker and to go back to your tweeters on the A-pillar. So essentially you need to have all four wires connected to run both speakers. As far as connecting them right, you can definately hear when they are wired backwards. Hook one up first. Make sure you keep the wires paired the way they are. Then hook the next one up but don't put the door panel back on. Turn the bass up and listen for distortion. If your not certain, swith the positive and negative wires then listen for distortion. Trust me you will hear the difference. Good luck on the install.

I had the infinity speaker system on my 98 Laramie SLT, with the tweeters in the piller. If I remember right there was a little black box connected between the 6x9s and tweeters, had something to do with distributing the frequencies to appropriate speakers. I chopped that crap out and ran a pair from the deck to the 6x9s, then another pair from there to the tweeters in parallel.

If I remember correctly the harness adapters that you get at wal-mart, best buy, whatever, aren't wired correctly for the 2 big factory gray plugs. If you have a problem with that let me know, I'll take a peek at what I did and maybe it'll be the same for you.

I think the 98's have different speaker wiring then the 96's ??

I was looking for a wiring diagram for a 96 ext cab ram w/ infinity system but I cant find one anywhere.

You will need to figure out which two wires are the speaker wires from the radio and which two are the power wires to the amp. If memory serves me correctly they are the two center wires in the plug. The others will have 12 volts on them when the key and radio are on.

Is the amp on the back of 6x9? I work for CircuitCity and have access to the info. There are a few variations of the infinity system depending on year. If there is no amp on the 6x9 and the 6x9 is a coaxial then one is for the tweeter and one is for the woofer. You can retain the factory amp if you want to, I would not. Its has limits and sound quality will suffer, it can be bypassed in the door if the amp is on the back of the 6x9 which most of them are. Let me know what it looks like and I can give the wire colors.

The amp power and turn on will be 12 volts. The speaker wires will also light a test light but not as bright. Your best bet is to use a multi meeter. Are the black and green wires in the center of the plug?

i measured 2 sets of wires and both of them where 12v.
the black and gray wires gave me 12v.
and the green and red wires gave me 12v.
im using a multimeter.

i dont know what i was thinking
i did the testing wrong.
i need to ground out the ground on the multimeter and test each wire on its own....

yes the green and black wires are in the center of the plug...
