Can We Idle For 2+ Hours w/ High Idle?
IF one enables the HIGH-IDLE and leaves the RPMs around 1300. Puts the transmission in NEUTRAL. Can you leave it running for 2+ hours to take a nap???
This of course, is when it is below freezing temperatures and outside.

I've done it many, many, many times and the hour meter will show it. having a manual, I use a turn-buckle between the petal and the dash, turn it to adjust the RPM's accordingly. A couple weeks ago I had 2 injectors replaced that had aroun 125k on them. The carbon build up on the end was very minimal, no holes in the tip were close to being cloged. This is with using Power Service all the time and also I have had the dealer injector cleaning once.

I don't recommed it, but my son hot shots and does it all the time. He will idle for many hours. He often sleeps in it and runs his laptop (plays movies and emails customers), heater, etc. I preach to him all the time about it, but he runs it hard all day long otherwise. He has never had any problems so far. This is his third 3500 CTD, it's an 06. I don't know if he idles it up, but I told him he should. I'm sure the dealer would avoid repairs, checking idle time, but he will be out of warranty soon anyway. He has 66K miles and it's only about 4 months old.

I would think it would be a real good idea to go pull on the freeway before shutting down after an extended idle (even a high idle) to hopefully burn off any gook that may have built up on the exhaust valves.
I'm no expert, but I suspect that shutting it off and allowing it to cool immediately after a long idle is where you really risk having the build-up stick a valve and bend a pushrod at the next start...
I would also guess that if you ran an exhaust brake, you would be fine, as it brings up the EGT's pretty good.
