Can Someone Link Article on Trans Fluid Change?

I want to do my own tranny fluid change/flush here at home and would like the step by step instructions on it. I looked around but couldn't find them anywhere.

I want to do a complete fluid exhange not just drop the pan and refill.

I did this on my PSD a couple years ago and assume it is the same process but want all my ducks in a row before I throw away a bunch of ATF by messing up.

Thanks.

A complete fluid change would require special pumping equipment to pump out all the fluid. I prefer to just drop the pan (this is a good time to add a drain plug kit for future oil changes), change the filter, clean the pan and check the magnet, reinstall pan with original reusable gasket, refill with fluid. Takes about an hour.

You can get most all the fluid out without a high dollar flush--On my Ford we hooked some clear line to the return line from the tranny cooler and turned the truck on, let the fluid run so many seconds, then poured so much ATF in, etc. until new fluid was coming out of the line and then we shut it down, checked the level and topped it off, and that was it. That's what I am wnting to do with this truck.

If anyone has a link to that please post.

Thanks.

I don't have a link sorry.

However, you don't need any special equipment. The "special equipment" does exactly what you describe. It pumps new fluid into the return line (which goes into the pan) and takes the hot/dirty fluid from the "hot" line. The only major difference between the special equipment and us shade tree mechanics is we put the new fluid into the dipstick tube.

Amsoil has a procedure on their web page which is basically what you describe except they suggest the dirty fluid in the pan be drained first. After draining the dirty fluid in the pan and replacing the pan, you add some new fluid in the pan, direct the hot line (after the cooler to get all the old fluid in the cooler) to a bucket, and then fill the tranny with new fluid as the old is pumped out. Recommend you put the rear wheels on jack stands and then start the engine and put in in 1 or R for the pumping.

As an alternative, someone on this board loosened the valve body bolts and was able to get almost all the old fluid out. I'm guessing this method didn't get the torque converter or the cooler fluid.
