Can I mount 235/85/16 on my stock 2500 Rims

Like the title says, I want to know if I can mount 235/85/16's on my stock 2500 rims(they are steel that are chromed). I would like to run them due to being taller and narrower then my current tires but was worried the rim may be to wide thoughts, anyone currently doing this, pictures?

I have been doing exactly that since I bought my first one....... I like it, be aware, it isn't good for mud. Works GREAT in snow though.

Give the Cooper S/T's a look. I really like mine, much better than the BFG's.

It's actually hard to say whether it's possible without knowing what size the rims are. What's your stock tire size?

The stock tire size on my 2000 2500 was 265/75R16, and those are too wide for a 235 tire. 255/85R16 just barely fit. My stock rims are cast aluminum though, so they may not be the same size as yours.

The Steel rims are 6.5" wide IIRC, definitely narrower than the alloys.

This was your stock size, or something that someone else put on. The reason I ask is according to Fleet farm they said all 2500 HDs came with 245/75/16 and could not mount any other tire, that is what there book said.

I have stock steel rims that are chrome plate, the OEM size was 245/75/16, currently running 265's

Okay, that makes sense. I think the earlier 2nd gens came with 245/75R16s and then at some point they changed over to the 265s. Mine are definitely stock, and it's a 2000, so mine might've been the first year for the bigger tire.

Regardless, it sounds like your rims should work fine with the 235s.

I have an 01 and it came with the 245's stock. I have run 235's they fit fine. A little taller and slightly less width.

Well, I guess that shoots down my theory. Maybe the alloys were an option then. Dunno.
