how can i inspect for a cracked.broke flex plate?

i posted in the help section and came to the conclusion that i most likely have a flex plate going out...truck is parked home...i started to get a terrible racket from somewhere around the oil pan when i was in standstill idle...but when i accelarated over 1000 rpms it was all gone!!!...the truck has full power...no leaks...and no smoke...just a terrible metalic racket at idle...so its home now..resting quietly...

how can check out the flex plate and confirm things without dropping the tranny?

ps this sucks

I havent actually pulled mine off yet but I would guess you could remove the inspection cover and look with a flash light?

im reading that there's another opening on the passenger side of the bell housing...hmmm never noticed that....would that help to get access to the bolts to tighten them up?

sincerely,

Andrew

yep, There is a small cover right above the plug for the barring tool. It has two 10 mm bolts holding it on..

I have never had one of these animals out, but on the other ones ive done the TC bolts gotta be undone before the trans comes out so there must be a way to get at them.
