What can I do about all the Smarty smoke

Well I am not real happy with all the smoke the smarty adds to truck and I lost an injector (although I doubt it is from the Smarty). I ran the smarty 1 time on 5 for about a 1/8 mile than set it on 3 for about 1500 miles I do not gun the engine but when I give it a little extra throttle smoke just pours out. So I set it on 1 and a little less smoke but still quite a bit. Is there a chip or programmer out there that does not through so much smoke. Will a intake help, Like a stage 2? I just want a little more power and some more grunt to tow the trailer to the coast up and down the Mountains. My Quad Commander is due to arive tomorrow so gauges are coverd.

That just doesn't sound right. Is your air filter clogged?

I just have a 4 inch hole in the stock air box I haven't even bothered to gut the intake yet and I'm running Beta 4.4 Smarty SW 7 which is closer to normal sw9 .....with the stock turbo and 75hp Flux injectors and I have smoke for a moment or two from 1200-1600 up if I nail it.

You need to ventilate your airbox and add maybe an AFE or Amsoil drop in filter at the least and preferably put on a nice cold air intake dry cone type filter either stage 1 or 2.

You need a boost fooler as the Smarty and your setup is not making enough boost. You should have 40psi of boost in a moment with an 06 turbo and Smarty.

Obviously you are starving the truck of air and this is very bad for your EGT's and cylinder walls.

It can be done, you really have to soft pedal it though.

I have found #8 to be far less smoky than 3-7. I have the clutch to handle it though.

Good thread, I tow a 5er and the last thing I want is a bedroom full of smoke. My wife complained so I added a curve exhaust tip from Geno and aimed the tip away( Backwards) to push the smoke to the side. This helped but I am concerned about adding more mods because I have to avoid smoke.

This was before adding the XZT which I have not noticed it smoking any more than stock.

I have installed a turn down before to keep the smoke off of my trk. they seem to help alot. I dont have one now, but I would if I towed alot. most aggresive programming is gonna smoke some. the tst wouldnt smoke on my 05 really at all by itself. It wont smoke much on an 06 either.

BigT....I'd solve the air supply problem first before trying the BETA 4.4...it can be a tranny tester and if you're having problems already...

The DTR store on this site is the place to check first for what you need. Talk to Lary and he will hook you up with the best price possible and you'll be supporting the site. He also has the Quad boost fooler....Both these will add significant power to your existing setup and should reduce your EGT's doing it....getter done. Kerry
