California OBD recall K01
Have any of you fellow Californians received this stupid recall yet? I'm a little apprehensive about letting the dealership do the flash, after hearing about so many problems with decreasing MPG, horns going off in reverse, etc. Supposedly this is to enable the smog shops to be able to read the computer, but I have a feeling it is to make it run cleaner. Maybe too clean, if you know what I mean. I think it's a crock! Oh, it also says in the recall, if you don't have it done, it could void the engine warranty, due to lack of maintenance. Also, it's my understanding that DMV can deny your registration if it is not done. My question is; What about the other states running the same exact set up I already have? Are their engines gonna blow, I don't think so. I'm just looking for some opinions on this B.S.

I could be off the mark a bit....but I will share this.
My buddy got one a few years ago with his Ford, the dealer sent him and MANY others a notice that they had a recall with the OBD something or another....
My friend had the same thoughts as you guys...something just wasnt right about it...his friend who I do not know, went in a did it and reported that RIGHT AWAY his motor was DETUNED and felt very sluggish...he went home and looked at a recent dyno sheet and noted that with his edge juice he was turning the wheels of the dyno at XXX HP and TQ...he hooked his juice back up and rolled the wheels again and found that after the RECALL he was on average or 3 runs 85 hp off...his first run was 96 hp off.
now this is almost 3 years ago and it is a FORD recall and while it was a persons truck I do not know, I do trust my friend I work with him at the Fire Department and he has NO reason to lie to me...He never took his truck in and traded it in on a Jeep Wrangler Rubacon. But his observation is relevent to your fears....
I think it will have something to do with your motor and messing with something in the programming either to make it "CLEANER" or to "DETUNE" it somehow.

PS...BrownDG.....we work at Cordelia Fire Protection District.....and if BrownDG stands for DOG..I got one TOOOOO

I just got one but my tags are due by the 31st of this month, not long to go. I'm hitting the shop this weekend and license on monday. Claim I didnt get the notice and what the hell if I get cornered. This is total crap. I have a laptop OBDII program and I don't have any trouble at all reading it. Just one more "nanny law" to help us make the decision to LEAVE california.
Is there any way to download the current ECM program, save it at home and just reload it after they screw with it?

Got mine today in the mail. Threw it right in the trash. Truck runs just fine without my CAT on it, I don't need them poking around and messing with something that isn't theirs.

I got mine yesterday. I too am concerned that this flash will detune or screw up my mpg's.
The worry I have is that it implies that we won't be able to renew registration on our trucks without this flash. In bold letters it says " The state of California requires the completion of emission recall repairs prior to vehicle registration renewal. It goes on to say "Your dealer will provde you with a Vehicle Emmission Recall Proof of Correction Form" and it says to be sure to save this form because the Calif DMV MAY require that you supply it as proof that the recall has been preformed.
I have a few months before I have to renew so I will be monitoring this thread to see if we HAVE to do it and if so what it does to our trucks.
Seems the environmentalist whackos of the world are running us, our economy and the country into the ground!

The guy across the street couldn't register his Ford without doing the Ford flash. He was missing his cat and had altered the turbo. Well, that truck's in another state and now he's driving a Rubicon. Marco's going to have to issue an update to enable us to reconnect after the dealer reflash. My registration is not due until 12-30-10. His last update incorporated Dodge's last reflash, and my truck runs the same minus the smoke. Same fuel economy.

"Inmates are running the Assylum" now guys, especially in ya'lls state, old San Fran Nan will do it right , but the biggest thing to me is "As Kaliforne goes, so goes the US", it'll get here,,,, on my soap box now, if they get amnesty passed, stick a fork it in, we're done.

I am in AZ and got the letter. I got the truck from a guy in Ca but it was originaly bought on the east coast. My thought is their loading something that will either stop a down load or detect an after market down load.
