Cabin noise from Scotty II

i have a 2001 2005 and am thinking about purchasing the Scotty II which requires cutting a hole in the trucks cowl area. i was wondering how much noise that it creates in the cabin.

I found the noise totally obnoxious with the cowl hole on long drives, not so bad just tooling around. It's even worse for the person in the passenger seat.
You can cut the noise to less than stock with the addition of a TAG

Without a TAG I would have removed the Scotty long ago.
Some folks think the whine is cool, I'd rather preserve my hearing.

You get used to it, I hardly notice it now. A ford driving buddy rode in my truck last week and had a fit over how loud the turbo is, wishes his 7.3 sounded like that.

Just Curious,
What do yall mean bout a 'b1' and a 'stock charger'?

Im thinking bout purchasing the Scotty II system as soon as I get the friggin stock exhaust off ere and get my 5 inch exhaust! SO what is the deal w/ drilling the 4.5 inch hole in the cowl? IS this necessary or is this done just to hear the turbo in the cab more?

It's not necessary, but it does help a bunch with EGT's. I dropped 100* by opening the cowl.

The B1 is an aftermarket turbo charger. I'm running the KSB-1 and it's pretty noisy with the scotty 2. With the stock turbo"charger" you can barely hear it.

Thanks, BigBlue. Sorry bout all the questions (still tryin to learn all this stuff), but what is a 'turbo charger'? Are you refering to an aftermarket turbo? ANd if I runn the Scotty II, it wont be loud unless I put a B1 turbo charger on there? Thanks!!

A "B1" is a much larger turbo for the guys that are pushing a lot more horsepower and torque than stock power levels.

A "stock charger" is just that. The OEM turbocharger that came with the truck when Dodge built it.

The hole as I understand is not necessarry but gives a second source of cool air (a good thing), and make the turbo whistle louder in the. Do remember though that if you cut the hole that you can always block it (like for long trips) with a piece of cardboard.

The turbo charger is the thingy that mounts to your exhaust manifold and that your air box plumbs into. It compresses the air and shoves it into the engine. Do a search for turbos and you'll find more than you could ever possibly read.

Being loud is a matter of personal preference. Some people think it's louder than others. I'm one of the others in that I don't think that the Scotty 2 is very loud with the stock turbo charger or with a lot of aftermarket turbochargers. It's something about the b-1 and it's different variants that make it very loud.

I cut that hole and thought my turbo had taken a seat right next to me. I couldn't deal with ALL that noise, so I put some sound deadening materian in between the hole and the cab and all is good now. Cut it down probaby to about 30% of the noise that was there before.
