Has anyone had problems with their cab getting extremelly loud. I have new seals in all the doors, checked everything i can think of. My 12v drowns out the music. You can hardly talk someone in the rig with you. It is really starting to get on my nerves. Has anyone had this problem or been able to fix it. The pickup was like this when I bought it. Thanks for any help.

Mine is quite loud too, and I think it got louder with cold weather. I heard adding 2-cycle oil really helps quiet it down, but I haven't tried it yet. Mine has an after market stereo in it, and it sure drowns out the engine at half volume! It drowns out everything else too, including my own voice. I will never let my teenager drive it, or he will lose his hearing completely (on its way there already if his lack of response to my words is any indication...)

Most of the time I don't even turn it on...I enjoy the Cummins music more.

But I do agree, mine seems to be much louder during cold weather. I have been using 2 stroke oil and it does quiet it down some.

The use of a sound-deadning material (IE dynamat, hushmat) on the rear of the cab (behind and under the rear seat) is said to help alot with quieting the cab noise.

I have dynamat covering the majority of the front of the cab but none in the rear. I just dont understand why i can hear the engine so well. I have no wind noise or road noise just the engine. Oh and my powersteering pump and brakes like to howl 24/7. How do you add the 2-stroke oil? Like how much and when?

On the way home from work today, maybe from thinking about it from this post, mine seemed to be louder than normal. It could be my new BHAF, but it is louder.

2-Stroke, I add one quart of non synthetic to a full tank. It is said to help lubricate the IP better when using USLD fuel. I'm on my second tank.

The trucks are noisy? You don't have wind noise? How is that possible? Driving through New Mexico I had a strong (30mph+) crosswind and the screech coming from the upper joint of the driver's side door was enough to drive me nuts. Screech pretty much goes away in low winds and I thought the engine noise was normal since it isn't load enough to keep me from carrying on a conversation (although after a long trip my throat is sore from talking so loud). My wife tells me I'm mostly deaf anyhow so I haven't been real motivated to adjust the driver's side door to see if that will fix the problem.

Most of the engine noise comes right through the dash, which is basically a hollow box (like a speaker) and the windshield. That is why treating the hood is so important. A lot of the engine noise comes up through the top of that and in through the window. Also the firewall if you can. I have noticed the new fuel is much louder too. I have gone to a mix of 2 cycle and Powerservice and that helps a lot. Using a synthetic oil like 5-40 Rotella makes it louder too. I can tell the diff between Rotella 15-40 dino and its syn.

i agree to the colder months...getting louder! i took my back seat out and had a piece of sheet insulation 1" thick and put it were it was indented in the back of the cab. something like 20" x 50" ....made a big diff.

I changed the lift pump in a friends 12V a couple weeks ago. He keeps telling me how much that quieted it down.

The main reason that our trucks are louder when it is cold is due to PHYSICS!! Sound waves are transmitted differently as the temperature changes. Think about how the inside of the truck, the house anything during the summer seems quiter but as soon as the temperature drops you can pick up on the smallest of sounds, even if you are DEAF like alot of use are!! The speed of sound is measured at 0*c or 32*f, the colder it is the speed of those waves either travel faster or slower. I notice mine being louder in the winter but it is really no difference than in the summer, once the engine is warm it is warm no matter what the ambient temperature is. First start up when it is cold is a different thing though.
