cab mounts info needed!

Hey guys,

I am fairly new to the forum and am pretty close to purchasing a fairly rust free 1991.5 W250 CTD standard cab with 5 speed and 255,000 KM on it for $9000 CDN. My problem is that I was told by a friend who owns a '93 D250 CTD, that if the cab mounts are bad he wouldn't pay half the price for the truck. Apparantly it was a real pain in the edit to replace the cab mounts on his and he just ended up scabbing some in. The reason he brought this up was because I mentioned that the bed had been replaced with one from down south causing him to suspect the mounts may go soon if the bed needed replaced already.
Any opinions on this? Is it really that big of a deal to replace the cab mounts if needed? How do I tell if they are rotten? I think I have all the tools that would be needed, I even have a big A-frame to lift the cab if I needed to.

Just looking for some input from some experienced guys before I dive into something I regret... or turn down a truck I'll regret not buying.

Also the owner claims there are two ports in the getrag for a PTO out the side, is this true? I can see the covers there.

Thanks
Max

I wouldn't turn down a good truck, just on account of I was afraid of the cab-mounts.

A lot of people get things all backwards, when considering a vehicle purchase.

The Cummins is the MAIN reason for the buy; that, in itself, is PRIORITY.

Better, yet, if it is a 5-speed; you can always switch an auto to a 5-sp., if it comes down to it.

Even more good, if it is 4x4; you get the coveted Dana 60 front axle and the bullet-proof NP205 transfer-case.

The cosmetics/body can be complete trash, so long as the Cummins is there, and it still be a good purchase.

If the cab does fall off, you can buy a knocking gas-burner, with a pristine body, for less than what you will save on fuel in a year, and put that cab on your truck.

YES, there are two PTO ports on my Getrag.

There should also be two ports on the transfer-case, should the truck be 4x4.

Yea, thanks for setting me straight there, I am buying it because of the Cummins, abd it is 4x4 5 speed. Talking with some other people it sounds that if i did have to do the cab mounts it wouldn't be a big deal anyway.

I put new cab mounts in about 8 months ago and it was not that hard at all. I just used a floor jack and some pieces of wood. I think that the front cab mounts are too small for how much weight there is JMO

Check the frame portion of the cab mount for rust through.
I had to replace 3 because they were too rusty.
A friend at a fabricating shop made new ones for me using one of the old mounts
as a pattern.
