I have not had my truck threw a winter yet, but the heat I am getting doesn't seem to be as warm as the 2500 gas I had before this. Even worse at idle. Is there anything I could do to help. One of the things I have thought about is removing the belt driven fan and run a electric one. This should let the engine get to operating temp quicker. Does some one make cover for the grill to slow down air flow? Or is this normal for the 12v

Just remove your fan entirely for the winter, you will have no cooling problem until outside temps exceed 75F. Problem is you won't want to put it back on, engine is much quieter and acceleration noticeably improved.

Don't know about '98 but older 12 valves have a recirc position on the vent function dial. This recirculates cab air rather than pulling in cold outside air. Warm-up and heater is much faster in this position.
